Sylvania 2GB Video MP3 Player with Full Color Screen (Purple)

We were upgrading from a sansa shaker, our girls wanted a screen to be able to pick their own songs. At first, we were thinking it was impossible to get songs onto it, but in the directions, if you choose usb rather than media device like it tells you, all you need to do is drag the items into the device on your computer. Lot of hard work to figure that out! But now that we know, it is pretty great for what we wanted. We got one for our 7 and 4 year old. It allows you to shuffle (there is a menu section within the music section for that), random songs, repeat all, or even repeat just one song (which my 4 year old loves to do). After putting all their favorite songs on there, we are next going to attempt to put one movie on to fill up the rest of the space. Not sure how that is going to go..we will see! Plus, you can put pictures onto it, record yourelf, play back your recordings (which we haven't tried, not sure we ever will), and there are even some games on there, which is a bonus...Read more

My 14 year old daughter bought this with her own money. At first she was thrilled with it, but now she's wishing she'd gotten a different one. If you're thinking of getting this one, you should know that it won't randomly play all your songs. She can only play them in order. If that's not a big deal to you, then it's an alright MP3 player. We just like to play the songs on random shuffle, or whatever it's called; to listen to a variety of songs, and this one won't do that. At first I thought she just didn't know how to do it, but I read the instructions myself, and she was right. In this case, you get what you pay for.

In short, if we had it to do over again, we wouldn't buy this MP3 player.

I purchased this Sylvania mp3 player for my daughter who is 8 yrs old. I can't seem to get it to simply shuffle the songs, I can't figure it out! The software that it came with seems to be useless, it did nothing when I installed it and tried to get it to recognize the player, it never did. I had to use Windows Media to create a playlist to sync to the player. I had it shuffle the songs when it synced, but on the player it has songs in groups by artist or by album and it's annoying that it will play a huge block of the same artist. So, not at all user friendly, I wish I had just bought her a Creative Zen V Plus like I have, I love mine and it's so easy to use! Now I know better and I will stick with the Zen mp3 players. I gave this 2 stars for the great purple color and the rubberized texture so it doesn't slip out of your hands so easy. The sound seems fine, though I think my Zen is better.
