This little speaker is amazing for the price.
Obviously you won't get much bass out of such a small item, but it's adequate for casual listening. The sounds quality over all is very good; it's loud enough to drown out a TV at normal volume without distorting (if bass is at 1/2 or less) if that means anything to anyone. It's powered by 3 AAA batteries, so I suggest getting the rechargable ones if you want to use this a lot. That is not necessarily a bad thing though, as it doesn't use any power from your player! so it's a toss up between charging batteries for the speakers or your mp3 player.
You will not run the batteries dry on the speaker before you do so on your mp3 player* so if you charge the batteries when you charge your player you will never be without.
grab this while you can, you won't get anything else like this for the price.

Side-note: not good or bad per say, but the 3.5mm jack is silver plated, not gold, and the cord from speaker to mp3 player...Read more

The 1st week, I was thrilled with the size and that there aren't moveable parts to get broken. The 2nd week, it wouldn't put out sound unless you held it in your hand and held the connecting wire at a certain angle, so I'm assuming there was a short. The 3rd week, I couldn't get sound to come out at all. Tried changing batteries twice - still no sound. Disappointed, but at least we didn't lose a lot of money on it.

I ordered the Philip's Portable Speaker from a third-party Amazon seller based on the website advertising, which states, in part: "Class 'D' digital amplifier for quality sound performance." The quality of the speaker's sound I received contradicted the quality of the sound as advertised. The speaker's sound I received is poor, tinny, and distorts at higher volumes. And no, I am not being unreasonable or setting unrealistic sound standards. I have purchased similar speakers no longer manufactured by Nokia, called the MD-8 I believe, at a comparable price through EBay and the speaker sound was superb. Consequently, either the quality of the Philip's speakers are misrepresented, or the speaker I received was defective.
