Summary: Great until the power button broke 2008-09-07
Comment: This product was great until my power/menu button broke. I have to plug it in to the computer to get it on and take the battery out to get it off. I contacted sandisk and they said that it is a problem but my 1 yr warrenty is up. Totally not worth spending what we did on this.

Summary: Great, but it's $80 at Circuit City. 2008-08-19
Comment: This is a wonderful mp3 player in most aspects. I actually accidentally sent it through the washing machine when I first got it, and here it is a year and a half later, still working fine. The volume doesn't go too loud - it's a feature designed for teenagers that tend to blast the music, but the volume refuses to go above an acceptable level so you're not deaf by the age of 20. I just found out by one of the other 4-star reviewers that you can adjust that, however - I'm just not sure how. The headphones that come with it are complete crap, though - mine broke after a few months. They weren't very comfortable anyway. I use a Phillips rechargeable battery with this mp3 player and the battery seems to last a long time. You can sort through your music by album, artist, song, or genre. My mp3 player has 266 songs on it right now and it still has space for more. My guess is that it would hold about 300 songs.
I'm really pleased with this mp3 player - it is a good investment for anyone wanting something cheaper than an iPod, but just as good. One note: I bought mine for only $80-something at Circuit City. They don't seem to have any more on their website, but it's worth checking around at some other places before you buy yours on Amazon. I'm not entirely sure why Amazon's is so incredibly expensive - it's ridiculous. You might as well buy an iPod.
Altogether, this is a worthy investment for anyone.

Summary: Works as advertised 2008-04-28
Comment: I bought this unit to replace a 1gig sansa I had, and am quite pleased with it. Regarding volume, there is a setting in the options to set to higher volume output. I use some SR60 Grado headphones and the unit drives them quite well. I only rip my MP3s at or above 256kps for the best sound quality, and use Windows Media Player to move my mp3s on and off the player. The file system used by the player is intuitive, and works well for me, (I tend put entire albums on, instead of individual songs) and the player groups them by artist or album. There is also a GOlist function. The audio is excellent, and really is a function the ear/headphones that are hooked to it. Lastly, it uses AAA batteries, I use rechargeables. Sounds just as good as any Ipod. And Amazon MP3s are DRM free. Excellent product
