Pretty on the Outside, But Crumbles Under Scrutiny,

This review is from: Remanufactured RCA Lyra RD2762 4 GB Micro Jukebox (Electronics)
When I first purchased my RCA Lyra RD2762, I thought it was great. The mp3 player craze was gaining momemtum, and I was a nieve kid who had a bit of money, but not enough for an i-pod. I should have saved for an i-pod, or maybe something else. First, the purchasing price for this player was nearly $180, far more than a mere 4gbs is worth. Furthermore, the software for the machine is awful and clunky, so that you're better off just opening the device folder and transferring files directly there. The worst aspect of this gadget, however, is the battery. This mp3 player has an internal battery that is integrated with the hard drive, meaning there is no way you can replace it nor can you take it to a general electronics shop. In fact, according to a customer service representative I spoke with, the battery can't be "replaced" at all! You must return it to RCA and have the device replaced for a $99 service fee, IN ADDITION to tax and S&H. This device has planned obscelesence; it...Read more

Junk. Absolute JUNK!,
February 26, 2006 Big Sam! (Washington, DC.) - See all my reviews
This item was a complete let down. After 3 weeks of use and only half of the memory filled, It just stopped working. No, really. IT JUST STOPPED. I didn't use it one day and the next day the display said "File System Corrupt". When I went on the website to correct the problem, the manual says that there is a glitch that does not allow you to fix it. Luckily, I brought it from Wal-Wart and was able to get my money back.

The RCA Lyra is the biggest piece of junk I HAVE EVER BOUGHT!,

I have owed this mp3 player for a few months and I don't know how anybody who has used this can say anything positive about it. Starting with the song transfer you will have problems with this product.
The profiling system, which is need to play the songs, post transfer takes an excruciatingly long time. Then if you get lucky you might be able to listen to half of the song. (The tracks will periodically have other files on your player interspersed on them)
Navigating your library will be a task also, as the wheel tends to go in every direction but the way you want it to.
And if you plan on doing any traveling this is not the player to do it with as I have experienced varing battery life from 5 hours in semi-warm weather to an all time low of 1 1/2 hours in temperatures of 35 degreesthe unit is turned off. The fact that you can't turn the backlight off and the select button is raised so it catches on anything doesn't help the battery life while in use.
So, in...Read more
