Summary: I'm very pleased. 2008-10-05
Comment: I don't know why everyone is bashing this player. If you ask me, it's a great player. For a 4 GB player, you can't beat the price. I bought mine for $75 from Wal Mart and I see them on here much cheaper.
I'll start with the playlist. I really don't see the issue here. Plug the player into a USB port, open it up, open the playlist folder and create a new folder and put your songs in it. Not difficult at all.
Pictures - The picture viewer is alright, though I think it only accepts JPG which is a pain because it let me put many different file types, .gif, etc. Only to tell me it's not supported. You'll want to make sure all of your image files are compatible with the player. Overall, the image viewer is very nice.
Video - The reason this player didn't get 5 stars from me is because to load a video on it is rather tedious. Like the images, you need to make sure your videos are in a format compatible with the player. Also like the images, it'll allow you to put incompatible video files on the player, it just won't play them. You need to use the media converter which is included with the software for the player. Also, the converter ONLY accepts .WMV videos. I learned that the hard way, trying to load .FLV videos onto it. If you have a video in any other format other than .WMV, you'll need to download your own video converter. Again, very tedious. This was the only drawback for me.
The player comes with some very high quality Phillips earbuds. I can hear every nuance of music that I'm unable to hear with any other of my headphones.
Overall, this player is great. Again, I gave it 4 stars due to the tedious video loading procedure. Sound is crisp and clear, I love the fact that you can organize things into folders that you make. This player isn't THE most user friendly out there, but then again there is also much worse.

Summary: I Wanted This To Work..... 2008-09-29
Comment: I don't normally right reviews but felt it was my duty to do so with this product. I purchased this product at Wal-Mart. My initial impression was that it was a slick and stylish player. Very small, compact, thin... So far so good.
The problem comes when you actually try to use it. Not user friendly at all. It's very easy to add music files to the player, however, it is very difficult to play them as expected. YOU CAN'T MAKE A PLAYLIST!!!! I am used to adding tons of music to a player and making all sorts of play lists that I can pick from depending on my mood or activity. Not having this feature is unacceptable. I should say that you can make a "play list" but only by pressing the "play list" button every time a song comes on that you like. Not only is that a pain, it is hard to press the button hundreds of times to add the songs to a list as the button is so small which causes you to miss it most of the time. The player can only have one list at a time. Each time you want a new list you have to spend an hour or so manually adding songs. No way....
Good luck getting the player to read any video files. The enclosed CD does come with conversion software that allows you to modify your video files so that they can be viewed by the player. However, the conversion software doesn't recognize any of the common video file formats. This makes the video feature useless....
I returned this item 1 day after playing with it and plan to purchase the Creative Zen 4gb player. From the reviews I have read, that particular player seems to be much more functional.

Summary: Playlist feature bummer 2008-09-26
Comment: I agree w/ the second reviewer.... WHY have a menu item playlists (notice the plural) & not let you make any playlists, my phone is a better mp3 player in those respects, I should not have wasted my money, I stupidly thought a machine dedicated to only one purpose would have more music playing features -not less :<

Summary: For the price, amazingly good. 2008-07-30
Comment: I am VERY happy with the product. PERFECT for LINUX. I have found this device amazingly good for the price, for sound, audio, pics, text and more. I am using with Linux (Ubuntu) and it is totally compatible with and usable in Linux. I also used this product and its SW in Windows, but like most things, it is faster in Linux. Even conversion of videos to SMV format is easy with the enclosed SW for Windows, OR the superior smv_encode for Linux which is available online. Might not be as perfect as an iPod (which I have as well) but tremendous for the size and price (1/3 an iPod's).
