Money well spent! I bought a similar product that worked on batteries. Needless to say that ate batteries like crazy - when you use it every day twice a day for a 42 mile one way commute to work... (I listen to a lot of books on tape & CD) When that finally died (the wires broke inside), I found this little gem! Plugs into the 'cigarette lighter', and since I have a Subaru, I don't have to worry about unplugging it to save the car battery. (I can see that being a problem for people who have vehicles with electrical systems that stay on when you turn the vehicle off - that's why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 - for my needs, it's a 5 all the way!) On the whole, the sound is fantastic - I use it with a casette player, a cd player (as the one in my car died), and my daughter's Ipod. You cannot tell the difference between the real radio and the broadcast. There is a good selection of stations to choose to from, and it's easy to slide from station to station if needs be. I don't doubt that this Monster brand unit is probably the best built of all the brands of FM transmitters, but I did notice that it cuts off the high end significantly. I have a portable device with a built-in EQ, and even with the top end boosted all the way it didn't sound quite right. It reduces the overall sound quality to FM quality (or less) and I noticed occasional chuffing noise in the background during quiet songs. The transmitted music is quieter than real FM broadcasts, which is true of all FM transmitters - they really should build in a small line-level amplifier to these things, it wouldn't be that hard to do. On the upside, the transmitter never "lost" the signal.
In summary, this is a good cheap temporary solution if you don't have any other recourse, like if you're going on a long trip (maybe in a rental car) and don't want to be driven crazy by bad FM programming, but it's not at all equivalent to a basic line level radio input.

This FM transmitter works. Its signal is weak, so volume on MP3 player AND on car radio both have to be pretty high. The power source only powers the transmitter, not the MP3 Player. Sound quality is good, to my untrained ear. Switching back to radio can be jarring if you forget to turn volume back to normal level. Otherwise, no complaints. It works with my iPod as well as a Creative Zen Stone MP3 player.
