Summary: Awesome, but small memory. 2005-10-29
Comment: Forgetting the technical information mentioned in many reviews, this device serves its purpose: It plays music.

I ADORE my iRiver, however, this model has little memory for a teenager, who is sure to have a large library when it comes to songs. The most I can get on here is about 70-89 four minuteish songs, falling far from the amount needed.

I got this for Christmas 2004, almost a year, and since then I've only gotten one scratch on it, and I drop it about once a week from five feet in the air. Note, I only started using the case provided about halfway through my time with my beloved mp3 player, and since then it hasn't been scratched.

Transferring and deleting files has been very easy using the system provided.

However, the headphones provided fall far from extraordinary. I love music, but I can barely tell the difference between a certain pair of headphones and another. Around May, my headphones started making popping in ears, which actually started to hurt when they were loud enough. Although I still use the ones given in the original packaging, I suggest you buy new ones immediately after this starts. Don't submerge your ear bud in liquid; it will ruin them, permanently muffling the sound to near static (I know from experience).

I've only tried voice recording once, it sounded pretty bad, but I can't imagine why you'd need it for major purposes.

My radio has always been horrible, I get static on every station, however, I rarely use my radio, and so it makes little difference for me.

I customize this thing frequently, yay me.

I have to change my battery about once every four weeks, and I listen to it for at least thirty minutes a day.

So yes, if you don't have a lot of songs to listen to, go ahead in buy it, but otherwise, I'd spring for the 1GB, although I'm not sure how many songs that will hold either. Parents, unless the previously stated applies to you child, you should consider buying them a model with more memory or a just a different mp3 player in general, otherwise you'll have you sun or daughter begging for a better model next Christmas, as I probably will do this year :)

Customer Rating: 5 Star
Summary: Features, sound and service all outstanding 2005-10-07
Comment: I bought my iFP-880 (the 128 MB version) about a year and a half ago from iRiver about when it was released. Many, many good things to say about this thing.

First off, I bought it for it's sound specs. Even expecting great sound, it exceeded my expectations. Through my $120 Sennheisers (playing a song at 320 bps), there was NO fuzz and my custom-set EQ settings were carried out flawlessly. I could hear things though this mp3 player that I cant hear out of my computer. 11 out of ten when it comes to sound.

There's so much to this thing. The FM/AM radio sounds better than my car sterio, but it gets a bit broken up when it's moved around fast. The line-in can be set to custom bit-rates for either better memory or quality, it's great for getting a song your friend has that you don't. The voice recorder works well, but admittedly it is a bit hard to get to. It sounds great however, at least it's high quality.

The packaged earbuds are impressive, better than any earbuds I've heard. At the time I bought the iRiver, I thought it was tiny but then again Mp3 players have been getting so small it doesn't seem so miniscule anymore. Certainly not a burden in the pocket though.

About two months ago the headphone jack started wobbling around from abuse (yea I'll admit it). At this point, I don't get any sound in the left ear. Annoyed, I e-mailed iRiver with my complaint. They set up a special account for me, I complied, now the're sending me a BRAND NEW ONE. FREEEEEE. All quarrels I had with build quality went right out the window. Then again, stuff like that happens when yuo buy a brand new product. I doubt they would let the problem persist.

All in all, this little thing is amazing. I bought it for $125 and thought it was a good deal - belive me you will NOT be dissapointed with this especially at ~$80. ONLY thing I could reccomened is that you go for a bit more memory, 128 MB just diddn't do it for me.
