Summary: Not bad, but has problems 2006-03-21
Comment: I've has this unit for about 3 months. I got it mainly because of the deal offered by the manufacturer for a package that included a waterproof case and headphones. The case works fine, but the special headphones are very uncomfortable. My main complaint has to do with the controls on the player itself. The 4-way toggle switch is hard to use, and it is VERY easy to accidently push it in while trying to fast forward, returning the player to the beginning of whatever you are listening to. This is extremely frustrating if you are listening to some long-format non-music material. I actually had to make a little metal "pusher" so I could move the toggle switch without using my fingers. I have also had a little trouble with the on/off switch. I'm currently looking for a different unit to use when I'm not on the water

Summary: Starts strong, but the IFP-799 is disappointing at the end. 2006-03-07
Comment: While it is working it is a great player. I bought the IFP-799 because I own IRiver's previous generation SlimX CD player (which is still working just fine). I've had two of the IFP-799s. My major complaint about them is that BOTH units have failed in exactly the same way: the On/Off button failed. The first time it was replaced at about 11 months. The replacement unit failed after about 4 months, one month past the 90 day replacement warranty... I take GREAT care to protect my portable electronics, so this is not a case of abuse. To trash an expensive device over a 2$ button is a mistake I encourage you not to make.
