The iRiver Clix features an eye-catching, direct-click interface that makes it easy to fly through your media collection and find the right song, video, photo, or video game. The unit is centered around a vivid 2.2-inch color LCD display, which delivers remarkably clear 320 x 240 (QVGA) resolution for watching videos and playing flash-based games. With support for MP3, WMA, ASF, Ogg, JPEG, MPEG-4, and Flash Lite 1.1 files, users can choose from a ton of other audio and video formats. The iRiver Clix even works with Windows Media Player 10 and its variety of affiliated online music stores and subscription services, including PlaysForSure services such as Napster and Rhapsody. Measuring just 2.7 by 1.8 by 0.6 inches and weighing a mere 2.5 ounces, the Clix is about the size of a business card. But don't be fooled, as the unit features 2 GB of internal flash memory, which is capable of storing approximately 32 hours of CD-quality MP3 music (encoded at 128 kbps) or 64 hours of WMA tracks (at 64 kbps). The Clix also plays MPEG-4 Simple Profile (SP) files at a maximum of 384 kbps and 15 frames per second, with audio encoded in MP3 format. Should you need to convert other formats to MPEG-4, simply download the free iRiverter utility and you're set. The display also doubles as the control interface, so you don't have to mess with any cumbersome buttons or controls. And unlike the touchscreens normally found on PDAs, the Clix's direct-click feature responds to gentle fingertip pressure, eliminating the need for pens or control keys. Meanwhile, a built-in microphone makes the iRiver Clix an ultracompact dictation machine. The recording quality is freely selectable and is controlled automatically. And listeners who hate to miss their favorite public radio program will dig the built-in FM tuner. Finally, the unit comes with several free Flash Lite games, including Launch Fighters (a Space Invaders remake, Log Jam, Barn Baron, and Sudoku. Audio-wise, the Clix offers 10 EQ settings along, a user-defined EQ option, and SRS WOW virtual surround sound, which creates a 3-D soundscape and a superior bass performance. In addition, the Clix, which is compatible with Windows XP operating systems (SP1), sports a fast USB 2.0 interface for speedy file transfers. The device comes with a rechargeable lithium-polymer battery that delivers up to 25 hours of battery life per charge and is backed by a one-year warranty. What's in the Box iRiver Clix media player, earphones, carrying case with screen cleaner, USB 2.0 cable, Easy Start installation CD, user's manual.

Summary: The Complete Package 2008-06-04
Comment: This is an outstanding product. I bought it several months ago and have had sufficient time to become familiar with the ins and outs of the Clix. First of all, navigation is simple and straight forward. It's easy to get to wherever you want, and whatever function you want. Integration with Windows Media Player is relatively seamless. It's a rock solid player with good battery life. The radio functions quite nicely. The screen is absolutely beautiful. I have never seen such a great screen on such a small device. The only issue is that 2 gb is not a whole lot for storage, but that's what I bought and other sizes are available.
One knock on it is that you can't play songs while it's connected to the computer, which is the primary method of charging unless you get another adapter. Beyond that, it's an outstanding media player.

Summary: Good design though, but a little disapointed 2008-04-24
Comment: First, I bought a new one, but it came in a box which I was sure that someone opened it before I did. Anyway, the product works fine.
The click design is outstanding. It is cool and easy to use. However, I still a little disappointed. This is iriver clix not iriver clix gen 2.This product is more or less like the iriver u10. The iriver's service is VERY VERY VERY POOR. You can only use windows media player to sync your musics. And windows media player does not support OGG.So how to play OGG(up to level 10) on this kind of toy? One choose is use iriver plus 3. If you check the iriver plus 3's help file, it says clix is supported. BUT ACTUALLY CLIX CAN NOT BE FOUND by the iriver plus 3.SUPER BAD SOFTWARE ENGINEERING.In order to play ogg properly, I did some research to hack windows media player. Now it works fine. But it wasted my time!
There are something else I don't like. This product is not supported by mac or linux. It can not play loosless music. If you want a toy which plays mp3(not even 320k, because windows media player will convert your 320k mp3 to wma) and do not want to use the iriver service, just buy one. Otherwise, save your money or buy something else.

Summary: Wonderful Player 2008-02-27
Comment: The iRiver is a fabulous little device. When I purchased the unit, the iPod Nano's were both expensive and they lacked video. I wanted both a video player and an mp3 player for commuting and vacation purposes. This device fits the bill perfectly.
First, it's incredibly portable. If you buy the velcro strap/cover accessory you'll hardly notice the weight. It's smaller than a deck of cards and is very light. Second, the video is surprisingly good. Watching a full length movie is no problem whatsoever. Third, the storage capacity wasn't an issue for me. Converting a full length movie to an iRiver compatible format reduces the size from ~5GB all the way down to ~400mb. You can easily store two full-length feature films with room left over for hundreds (if not thousands) of songs. That works for me.
I won't spend a lot of time on the D-click user interface except to say that I liked it. It's not as cool as an iPod, but the space savings make the player considerably smaller than a Nano, which is nice.
The only downside I see to this player isn't even really the iRiver's fault. Apple has their act together with the iTunes store and their Windows-based competition lags behind. Sometimes way behind.
If you value portability, want video, and like FM radio then the iRiver is a huge bargain.

Summary: good one, but not excellent 2008-02-02
Comment: I am satisfied with it. Many features are very good. The sound quality is as good as ipod and others. The FM radio can receive signal in many place, quality is also good. The picture quality is wonderful, better than I expected. Some review said about the charging problem, saying it can only be charged through the computer. I bought chargers so don't have that problem.
There are several things I am not happy with. First, it is not very easy to learn how to transmit resources from computer, especially in vista. I still can not find the way to put in video and songs which are not mp3 files. Second, after charged, it can not find back where I was listening.
