Summary: DON'T BUY CREATIVE! 2008-10-31
Comment: The first mp3 player I bought was by Sony and it has worked pretty well, but since I didn't care for the design or the menu, I thought I'd buy a different brand this time around. The Stone really appealed because of its price, looks, and features. So I spent a lot of time reading reviews and despite the number of people that said theirs randomly stopped working, I still ending up ordering a Stone because of the price.

WHAT A MISTAKE! I started using the Stone right away and everything was going well. I laughed at myself for worrying. THE VERY NEXT DAY, my FULLY CHARGED Stone WOULD NOT TURN ON! I couldn't use the recovery tool that I downloaded from Creative either because when I connected the Stone, it wouldn't show up on the computer. MY STONE WAS DEAD WITHIN TWO DAYS OF USE!

So, there goes fifty bucks. (I bought the 2GB plus with speaker.)

Other reasons not to buy the Stone:

It is ridiculously hard to turn on and off and you have to press for way too long. The middle button isn't big enough or something. Whenever I try to turn it off, I end up turning up the volume super loud instead.

When you reach the end of a list, it doesn't go back up to the first one.

You can't choose individual songs in a folder.

Changing the mode it's playing (in one folder, on repeat, shuffle, etc.) takes way too long. I have to press the middle button, right towards options, down to play mode, and then up and down.

You can't browse music and listen to music at the same time. So let's say I want to go from my Carnival Ride folder to my Some Hearts folder. Well, as soon as I switch over to Some Hearts, Flat On the Floor is cut off because Wasted interrupts it and starts playing.

The clock doesn't work. When you connect the stone to your computer, it asks if you want to sync the time to your computer time and I said yes. Like an hour later, I checked the clock on the Stone and it reset. O_o Before my Stone died, I had synced it twice and both times this happened.

I think I've made my point. THE STONE IS A BAD BUY! So don't buy it.

Summary: everything but good sound 2008-09-17
Comment: absolutely worthless over fifty mph on a motorcycle with full face helmet - it's ok if you're just sitting around the house and aren't concerned about sound quality - not even close to a zen (which I broke and couldn't afford to replace). You gets what you pay for. Gave it to the Frau who listens to books on tape without earbuds (speaker) and she likes it.

Customer Rating: 4 Star
Summary: Bargain podcast player 2008-09-14
Comment: I only listen to podcasts on an mp3 player. I bought this player because it was the cheapest one I could find where someone reviewed it and confirmed that it had Resume. By Resume I mean, if you shut it off entirely, when you turn it back on, it starts at the exact place you left off within whatever track it was playing. This feature is essential in a spoken word player.

Good
- Has Resume
- No batteries! It charges off of the USB connection. So far mine has charged itself to 100% every time I have connected it, just in the time it takes to refresh its podcast list.
- Charge lasts longer than a typical AAA battery did on my old, prematurely deceased, Sansa players.
- Tiny, about 1.5 x 2.5 inches, and almost weightless. If the clip falls off and it falls, which has already happened, it still works.

Bad
- No indicator for what track number you are on, just the track title. Since I have mine filled with podcasts I can't tell when I'm on the last one. Have to wait until they start sounding familiar.
- To open the clip you have to put your thumb on the clip and your opposing finger on the other side of the player right where the controls are, which often results in advancing to the next track by accident.

Summary: Zen stone plus A great buy 2008-08-09
Comment: This fits the bill perfectly for the use I intended. I like to download audiobooks from my libraries website and listening to them anywhere. Best features are the external speaker so I don't always have to wear earphone which hurt my ears and the fact that when I turn it off and come back to it it starts exactly where I left off. Great price nice size at 2gb perfect physical size I am able to clip it right on my collar with the included clip.
