Summary: Used it for a while, no problems 2008-10-02
Comment: I have used this product for almost two years. I have one thing to say: excellent for the price.
Pros:
[A] The sound quality is excellent; as good as any iPod or Sansa, but, of course, this depends on your headphones. The headphones that are shipped with this player are quite insufficient. I bought some high quality in-ear headphones and I was very satisfied.
[B] Menu system is outdated, but functional. It plays the song in the order that you sync them, so this is great if you are driving and you don't want to distract yourself for too long. Also, once you get the hang of the interface, you'll realize that simplicity is the key to a functional mp3 player- the same reason that the iPod is so popular.
[C] The functionality of the included flash drive both speeds up syncing time and makes it more convenient to do so. I can take this thing anywhere and plug it into any computer, copy the songs onto the hard drive, and do whatever I wish with them. All without the hassle and clutter of cords.
[D] The microphone is a feature that I seldom use, but the sound is fairly clear- for the price (don't get me wrong, this is no sound studio...). I suppose that it could be used to record lectures and whatnot, but the only limitation with this is the size of the storage space. You'd be lucky to get two lectures on 256 MB of memory.
[E] The battery life is outstanding. On medium volume, I can usually get about 20 hours of listening time per Energizer battery. Maybe not as great as some, but definitely good. Good is for sure.
Cons:
[A] Sometimes, the controls may not respond. Most notably, the play/pause button sometimes needs to be pressed twice to get it to work. I usually hold it down for half of a second, and it works just fine that way. But, hey, for the price, I have no complaints.
[B] I have had difficulties, occasionaly, with the unit spontaneously shutting off. This usually happens when I move it suddenly or have it in my pocket when I am walking. I think that this may just be a bad soldering in mine, but it could be that the battery doesn't fit the slot as smugly as it should.
[C] Storage space is somewhat limiting. Usually, 40-50 songs will fit on there. Once again, for the price, this is...okay...
Overall:
Definite buy if you have both only a small amount to spend and are looking for a good deal and if you are willing to upgrade when the time comes. Obviously, being a minority with a four star review, you may be skeptical, but I love this thing. It is good, sturdy, functional, cheap, and it has just enough storage space to entertain for about an hour. Things it is not: and iPod or a Sansa. Don't expect one, and you wont be disappointed; don't think it is, and you wont need a wakeup call. Once again, this is an excellent mp3 player FOR THE PRICE!

Summary: If I could rate ZERO, I would! 2008-03-12
Comment: Do not bother with Coby! Player stopped working after only a few weeks. You try to turn it on and it just blinks back off. Customer support is a joke. They give you directions to do a firmware update that does nothing but erase anything you have stored on the MP3. I have a very sad little boy that received this as a birthday gift. Also tried to give feedback on Coby's website and received a fatal error once I submitted. They don't want to hear from us unsatisfied customers.

Summary: Not worth wasting your money on... 2008-02-16
Comment: This device has one primary purpose...to display the name COBY when you turn it on, and then to immediately shut down. Oh, it may play your files for a week or two as a bonus when it's new, but then it resorts to it's true calling.
I purchased one of these some time ago and for my purposes, it did the job just fine. For a while. Then it just stopped and started the behavior mentioned above. Coby tech support was an annoyed-sounding person who suggested a fix that didn't work and another that did: Return it to the place where I purchased it.
So I did. It was very new so they agreed to exchange it for another. I thought I just had a defective player the first time, so that was fine by me. The new player worked fine, until it eventually developed the same problems as the first one. I tried downloading firmware from the website. No luck.
A quick search of the web found that my player had a very common problem, but to date the problem is not acknowledged on the Coby website nor is there a fix listed for it. So I'm assuming that customer service is not a high priority from Coby.
I used their submission form to write them about the problem, and when I tried to submit the description I just received a bunch of error messages.
I'm done with Coby.

Summary: Not worth the money! 2007-06-09
Comment: Had it for less than two weeks and the player no longer works. The player would shut off for no reason occasionally and then finally it had a total malfunction. Customer service only had one solution and that was to reformat it on my computer but the computer would not recognize it being there. Had trouble with switching between songs with the toggle switch. the headphones are bad to use, sound quality is ugly to say the least. You get what you pay for!!

Summary: so far so good 2007-05-02
Comment: I have had this product for about 8 mos with no problems. I bought it for 19.99 at a local save-a-lot store. The pros, other than being inexpensive, is its ease of use and transferring music. my pc immediatly recognized it with no disc needed. There are a few cons but for the price they are negligable.
