I have an iPod Touch encased in an Otterbox. I thought this doc extender would be a great way to connect the iPod Touch without having to take it out of its case (which is an ordeal). I double checked to make sure the cable would work with my third generation iDevice and then purchased it. This is one of those items that costs more for delivery than the item itself costs (not prime eligible).
The device DOES NOT work on my iPod dock. I even tried my wife's iPod nano to see if it would play through the cable, no such luck. It won't even recognize the cable is hooked to either iPod.
HOWEVER.
It will work if you chain it together with a car charging adapter. While I am not in great need of this use, it does allow the cable to be useful since returning it would cost me 3x's the amount I paid for it.
I would just stay away from this cable if I were you...unless you need the extension for your car charger.

I bought this product to see if I could connect my wife's iphone to a dock and play the music and sync without removing it from the case. The only thing that worked was the charging part of the cable, everything else did not work. Does anyone any good if only the power work. Don't buy this if you want full functionality.

Do not buy this cable if you are looking for an extension for a speaker dock. This cable with only charge and will not allow you to dock your iphone/ipod. It only has a few pins out of the thirty a real extension would have that I imagine will only let you charge and nothing else.
I purchased this with the intent of being able to use it with my iphone on a speaker dock that I usually have to take my case of for so that I could just leave the case on and use plug into the extension, but it only charges and will not switch to the 30 pin audio out for the dock. Same problem when used with a computer.
Lames.
If you just need a charging cable extension this would work fine for you.
