At only 7 millimeters thick, the stylish and easily portable Archos 105 multimedia player packs in advanced features but won't weigh you down. The Archos comes packed with 2 GB of on-board storage -- plenty of space for hours and hours of nonstop multimedia playback -- and a sharp 1.8-inch color screen for crystal clear video playback and photo viewing.
The Archos is compatible with WMV video files and can store up to 12 hours of video, plenty of room for at least two movies and a few must-have video clips. For music playback versatility, the Archos is compatible with MP3, CBR, VBR, WMA, and protected WMA files. To round out the player's robust multimedia abilities, Archos threw in a photo viewer application that allows you to view and share JPG files. Other great features include an advanced Li-Ion battery for up to 18 hours of continuous music playback, and high-speed USB 2.0 connectivity for ultra-fast file transfers. The player will begin to charge any time its USB cable is connected to a computer. Weighing in at a scant 1.8 ounces, the player measures 3.3 by 1.8 by 0.3 inches.

I did listen briefly to the sample MP3s that came on the device, and they sounded fine to me. File transfer and charging are via a 5-pin mini-USB connector. Under Windows, you access the device through Explorer under the path My Computer\a105\Internal Storage. While you can directly place music and photo files through Explorer, video files must be converted and transferred using Windows Media Player. Consequently the Archos 105 requires video files in windows media (WMV) format. The resultant file that resides on the device is about 75 MB per hour, which means you should be able to cram 20-25 hours of video on the 2GB of internal flash (non-expandable). In the settings, you can choose for a video to playback once and stop, or to loop. In my test it played video for about 4.5 hours on a single charge. While the screen is small (160 x 128 pixels), it's good enough to watch tv shows on. Highly recommended... especially if you catch it on sale (as I did!) Also, Gizmos4Life shipped it quickly and in great shape... I highly recommend them as well! |
